Another step towards Environmental Education

November 4, 2011: The Beaconhouse School System and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-Pakistan signed a MoU for the (EIP) Eco Internship Programme yesterday. WWF-Pakistan initiated the nationwide Eco Internship Programme, consisting of a six-session-long summer internship, in schools and colleges across the country in 2009. Specialists and conservationists motivate students and conduct interactive sessions on various environmental challenges.

The (EIP) Eco Internship Programme aims to not only develop an environmentally conscious generation, but will also provide an opportunity to the students to understand their responsibilities by contributing towards the community. The programme also gives students an insight into eco-dynamics and offers sustainable solutions to existing problems in the ecosystem. Hands on activities like preparing a biogas model, synergetic discussions, creative challenges and an enriching exposure visit, are also a part of this extensive programme.

The participating students will be accredited with a certificate after the successful completion of their internship, affiliating them with WWF Pakistan for future conservation efforts.

During the signing of the MoU, Mr. Ali Raza, Regional Director (Centre), Beaconhouse School System, added, We strongly advocate environmental education because it sensitises the students towards people’s needs by engaging them into hands-on environmental education activities. This collaboration between Beaconhouse and WWF-Pakistan will reaffirm our commitment to the protection of our natural resources by allowing us to actually see and feel what is there to protect”.

Another MoU was singed for the Green School Outreach Programme which aims to generate an insight into the overall challenges faced by ecology among the students, so that they become ambassadors of WWF-Pakistan and instil a habit of giving back to the community as responsible citizens. Once the programme has reached its completion, the partaking school will be one of the 10 pioneer Green schools in Pakistan.

WWF-Pakistan Environmental Education and conservationists’ team, in consultation with the best relevant authorities and academic institutions, will carry out several activities such as: WWF-Pakistan Spellathon, Annual Traveling Nature Carnival, Wildlife Nature Photography Workshops, Intra-Green School Competitions etc. These activities will be carried out throughout the year to inspire students to peacefully coexist with nature by bringing a positive change in society.

The (WWF) for Nature-Pakistan is a is a non-profit organisation and a proud component of the WWF International family network, one of the world’s largest and most experienced independent conservation organisations.A WWF addresses the growing environmental and conservation issues that have not only affected the flora and fauna of our country, but have also impacted the human population at large. It is working extensively to preserve and safeguard our environment and natural resources.
