January 4th & 5th 2012

Gujranwala: Beaconhouse Palm Tree Campus hosted its first ever Science Olympiad. Consisting of a two day event, the competition held a range of activities for the participating O Level students, hailing from BSS Sialkot, PTC, Quaid-i-Azam Public College, as well as LGS.

Organised by the A Level Science Society, the event was headed by two exceptional students; Iqra Asad and Tayyab Chatta, both of whom were from A2. The participating students underwent an extreme test of their academic capabilities through a series of test levels including; Archimedes Aces, whereby the contestants had to answer 50 Maths MCQ's; Detective Work, which included the murder investigation of a famous scientist, comprising of a series of experimental and analytical work to determine the killer; and lastly, Explorado, the activity which can easily to be said to have been the most exciting. Lead by an A Level supervisor, the teams were sent around the large campus, unlocking codes by answering challenging questions, as well as completing a series of challenges. Possibly the hardest one was having a cookie placed on the contestants' forehead, and having it enter their mouths through muscular movement!

A tense, albeit exciting atmosphere prevailed during the closing ceremony, at which the winners were revealed. In third and second place, were PTC's very own Team Alpha and Team Epsilon. However, Quaid-i-Azam Public College emerged the overall victors of the Olympiad with Team Phi. The budding educationalists received their prize from the Chief Guest, Dr. Asad Ullah Khan, Chairman COMSATS, Lahore, who then gave a short talk on the importance of participating in such events on entry into third level education.

Overall the students enjoyed themselves to a great extent, with the Olympiad proving to be an epic success. It is hoped that in the following year, the competition will have gained a wider platform with many more participants.
